Germany, automatically qualified for Euro 2024 as the host nation, is set to play two new friendly matches during the September break. They will face Japan on September 9th and France on the 12th in Dortmund. For these two fixtures, coach Hansi Flick has unveiled his list of 24 selected players.

The coach’s choices have sparked discussions in the country, particularly due to his decision not to include Timo Werner (RB Leipzig) and Leon Goretzka (Bayern Munich). On the other hand, other prominent figures from Bayern Munich, such as Kimmich, Musiala, and Sané, have been called up to the team. Key players from FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, Marc André ter Stegen and Antonio Rüdiger, are also part of the squad.

It’s also worth noting the very first call-up for Pascal Gross, the 32-year-old midfielder from Brighton. After a disappointing World Cup, Germany finds itself at a crucial juncture just a few months before the Euro, which will be held on its home soil. The disappointment and lackluster results in recent matches have highlighted the need for the team to regain its vigor and dominant position on the global stage. This can be achieved through strong performances in their upcoming two outings.
