The League of Consumers of Togo (LCT) has expressed concern about the recent fuel shortage in the country, calling on authorities to take urgent measures to mitigate the impact of this crisis on the population.
For several days, Togo has been experiencing a shortage of petroleum products, especially gasoline, which has led to significant disruptions in the daily lives of citizens and significant economic repercussions. Gas stations across the country have been affected by this crisis, causing widespread anxiety among consumers whose mobility and professional activities depend largely on these essential products.
In a statement released on Sunday, September 17th, the LCT described the severity of the current situation and called on authorities to take remedial measures. The League of Consumers of Togo emphasizes that this shortage of petroleum products has a direct impact on citizens’ purchasing power. Fuel prices on the black market have reached exorbitant levels, leading to an increase in transportation costs and additional financial pressure on already strained households. According to information gathered by the LCT, off-pump prices currently range from 800 to 1500 CFA francs per liter.
Faced with this situation, the LCT urgently calls on the Minister of Commerce and all relevant stakeholders to take immediate measures to resolve this shortage and mitigate its adverse consequences on consumers.
The League of Consumers of Togo urges all stakeholders to act quickly and responsibly to address this petroleum product crisis. Finally, it warns against any attempt to increase prices, a measure that could further worsen the situation for citizens already affected by this shortage.
