The Nigerian Super Falcons have risen to the top 10 in the latest FIFA Women’s World Cup ranking.
The ranking was released after Spain emerged victorious in their match against England with a score of 1-0 in the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, held on Sunday, August 20, 2023.
According to FIFA regulations, teams that were eliminated at a comparable stage of the competition are evaluated based on the circumstances surrounding their elimination.
The Super Falcons secured the tenth position in the ranking due to their outstanding performances and the unique circumstances surrounding their elimination, an experience shared by other teams.
Surprisingly, Nigeria ranked higher than Germany, Brazil, Portugal, and Italy on the list, while being the only African women’s football team in the top ten. This made the Super Falcons the highest-ranked women’s football team in Africa.
In the recently concluded World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand, the Super Falcons delivered a commendable performance before being eliminated in the Round of 16 by the English team.
