As Nigeria faces Australia this Thursday in a decisive encounter at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, the Super Falcons may have to do without their star striker, Asisat Oshoala, who suffered a muscular injury.
Asisat Oshoala is a major doubt for Nigeria’s second group stage match against Australia on Thursday. The Barcelona forward has not yet recovered from the knock she received during the Super Falcons’ goalless draw against Canada (0-0) last Friday. The player is expected to be rested to allow her to fully recover before their third match against the Republic of Ireland on July 31st.
In the likelihood of Oshoala’s absence, coach Randy Waldrum may have to turn to players like Desire Oparanozie, Jennifer Echegini, Monday Gift, and Uchenna Kanu as Nigeria tries their luck against the Australians, who are also the hosts of this competition in Oceania.
On the other hand, national coach Randy Waldrum is regaining the goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who has returned to training after a day off. Rasheedat Ajibade, who scored the winning goal against Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the last Women’s AFCON in Morocco, is also making a comeback, as well as midfielder Halimatu Ayinde. As a reminder, Nigeria is currently third in Group B with only one point, behind Australia, who tops the group with 3 points.
