Already eliminated from the competition, Panama faces France this Wednesday in the third match of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In the pre-match press conference, Panama’s coach, Ignacio Quintana, wants to “show that his team deserves its spot.”
After being defeated by Brazil (4-0) in the opening match, and then losing to Jamaica (1-0), Panama is already eliminated from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. However, the team still has one last match in their group, against France, this Wednesday in Sydney, Australia.
Despite the gap between the two nations, Panama’s coach, Ignacio Quintana, asserts that his team wants to prove against Les Bleues that they are not there by chance. “We are a bit disappointed because we had a lot of hopes and a great desire to do much better,” the coach stated in the pre-match press conference, as reported by RMC Sport. He added, “Nevertheless, we can overcome the tough moments, we have already done it in the past.”
“We will play in front of 40,000 spectators, we may face the future world champions. Motivation will come naturally. Yes, we are sad, but we want to show that Panama deserves its spot,” Quintana continued. The coach also hopes to lay the groundwork for the future of this Latin American team.
“We are here to start something. We will think about the future, we have very young players who will experience other international events. We expect our players to be present in other World Cups. The second time, it will no longer be a surprise for them,” he concluded.
