Congolese music superstar, Fally Ipupa, has recently updated his rates for personalized shout-outs in his songs. The price for these special mentions has seen a significant increase.
In the musical world of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), it’s a common practice to hear the names of influential personalities sung in the works of famous artists such as JP Mpiana, Ferre Gola, Koffi Olomidé, Werrason, Héritier Watanabé, and of course, Fally Ipupa. These mentions, far from being free, represent a source of income for the artists.
In a recent interview, Fally Ipupa, also known by his nickname Dicap la Merveille, revealed that the prices for these special shout-outs have been revised upwards, marking a new commercial strategy in his musical career. “A shout-out from me is now set at $100,000,” he specifies. Prior to this decision to increase prices, it stood at just €10,000, which is more than 6.5 million CFA francs.
However, for personalized and exclusive compositions intended for a specific individual, the rates could fluctuate between €40,000, which is approximately 26 million CFA francs, and €50,000, about 32 million CFA francs.
Moreover, these extravagant amounts revealed by El Professor have sparked a wave of controversy and heated debates among internet users.
