He mentioned the possibility that it could strengthen military power in Niger and trigger anger directed at France in the region. He also highlighted the risk of similar demands for interventions in other countries facing similar powers. Mélenchon’s position comes as the meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is scheduled for August 17 and 18 to discuss a military intervention in Niger.
