In an interview with the newspaper Fraternité, the president of the UP Renewal Party shared his opinion on the current political situation. When asked about the 2026 general elections, Joseph Djogbénou was cautious in his response.

Joseph Djogbénou expressed little interest at this time in what will happen in the 2026 general elections, which will reshape the political landscape. According to the president of the UP Renewal Party, it is not yet time to think about future elections. He believes there are more pressing needs that require immediate solutions to ensure the happiness of the population. “Those who do not first look closely and instead focus on the distant future lose their sense of direction, priority, and even responsibility,” he stated.

While various movements are already soliciting candidates for the 2026 presidential election, Joseph Djogénou is concerned with matters such as the start of the school year, healthcare, transportation, road quality, access to modern infrastructure, and strengthening democracy.

“One who does not first look closely and fix their gaze on the near future loses their sense of direction, priority, and even responsibility. We must focus on meeting the needs of our population and seek lasting solutions to the daily concerns of our fellow citizens,” stated Joseph Djogbénou.

As the former president of the Constitutional Court, he insists on not rushing into actions. “First, we must satisfy the present before engaging the future. The proposed responses to the present must make the future possible. This is our responsibility,” he said.

To address the urgent needs mentioned, Joseph Djogbénou places special emphasis on safeguarding and strengthening democracy. “On July 1, 2023, Nigeriens did not expect a break in their democratic experience. Democracy is an ongoing conquest. We must be soldiers in the protection of our democratic system,” emphasized the president of the UP Renewal Party.
