The latest data from Trading Economics reveals a fascinating picture of the largest oil producers in Africa for the year 2023. Libya, Angola, and Nigeria are vying for the top spots, confirming their status as oil giants on the continent.
Unsurprisingly, Libya, Angola, and Nigeria continue to lead the rankings of oil production leaders in Africa. Libya, at the top of the African ranking, averaged an impressive 1.173 million barrels per day in July. This performance earned it the 15th place in the global oil producers’ rankings. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is Libya’s resilience in the face of ongoing political and economic challenges.
Angola and Nigeria, respectively second and third in the African rankings, also posted impressive figures in 2023, with productions of 1.149 million and 1.081 million barrels per day. Their influence in the global oil sector remains undeniable, ranking 16th and 17th in the world, respectively. Algeria and Egypt hold the 4th and 5th positions.
In addition to these giants, other countries have also made their way into the top 10 of African oil production in 2023. The Republic of the Congo, with a production of 282 thousand barrels per day in July, ranks sixth in Africa, closely followed by Gabon, which produced 193 thousand barrels per day in the same month. Sudan, with a production of 187 thousand barrels per day in April, takes the eighth place, while Ghana, with 173 thousand barrels per day in May, ranks ninth. Chad closes out the top 10 with a production of 88 thousand barrels per day in May.
