At least 15 Congolese soldiers lost their lives in an attack by Mobondo militia in the Kwango territory, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
A deadly attack occurred in the Kwango territory of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where at least 15 Congolese soldiers were killed in clashes against Mobondo militia. The incident took place in the village of Mulosi, located near the border with Angola.
According to Adelard Nkisi, spokesperson for the provincial government of Kwango, the clashes also claimed the lives of 3 Mobondo fighters, bringing the provisional death toll to 18. The exact causes of these clashes have not been clearly established yet, but they highlight the ongoing instability in certain regions of the DRC.
As a result of this attack, surrounding villages have been emptied of their residents, causing a concerning humanitarian situation. Adelard Nkisi called on the central government of the DRC to intervene promptly to restore peace and provide assistance to the displaced populations.
The Mobondo militia emerged in 2022 following a land dispute between the Yaka and Teke communities in the Kwamouth territory. Since then, it has expanded to other regions, including the Kwango and Kongo Central territories, underscoring the persistent security and stability challenges facing the DRC.
