Singer and actor Wanlov The Kubolor has shared advice with the Ghanaian army regarding the ongoing crisis in Niger.
The Ghanaian-Romanian artist believes that military forces run the risk of losing their lives if they engage with their counterparts in neighboring Niger. In a video shared by Wanlov, he stated that manipulation by Europeans should not be tolerated, urging fellow Black citizens not to be pitted against each other.
He further explained that European colonizers continually exploit people of color, so it is not wise to fight against fellow African compatriots, even if it is for a good cause.
“Hey, what’s up, it’s Kubolor, I’m sending a message to the Ghanaian army. Please, don’t risk your lives and go fight your Black compatriots in Niger because you’ll be fighting for Macron. Saying that Niger’s leaders are corrupt is why the people decided to overthrow their leader. So, going to fight in Niger would actually be encouraging bad leadership and manipulation by the whites,” he stated in an Instagram post.
The ECOWAS has clearly indicated that it would use its standby military forces to restore democracy in Niger after diplomatic efforts failed. Security analysts and diplomatic experts have advised against using force, warning that it could backfire and exacerbate the security situation in the West African sub-region.
The government of Niger’s president, Mohamed Bazoum, was overthrown a few weeks ago and has been under house arrest since, with many citizens of the country expressing support for the military junta.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the junta has expressed readiness for talks with the regional bloc. It has also stated that it will pursue charges of high treason against Mohamed Bazoum.
