As Togo currently faces a fuel shortage, causing significant disruptions in the daily lives of citizens, singer Almok wanted to send a message to her fans.
Since last weekend, Togo has been grappling with a shortage of petroleum products, especially gasoline. This crisis has affected gas stations across the country, causing widespread concern among consumers whose mobility and professional activities depend largely on these essential products. The situation has even led some to park their vehicles, while on the black market, fuel prices have reached exorbitant levels, creating additional financial pressure on already strained households.
Togolese singer Almok, well-known for her music and social media presence, recently reacted to this crisis in a post on her Facebook page. She warned her fans and Togolese citizens not to be surprised if they now see her traveling on a “Zém,” referring to motorcycle taxis that have become a common means of transportation in such fuel shortage situations. “If you see me on a Zém, don’t be surprised; I’m out of fuel,” she wrote.
She then called on the authorities to take urgent measures to address this issue. “Please, resolve this problem as soon as possible,” she added in her Facebook post.
It is worth noting that the current situation is particularly challenging for many Togolese who rely on motorized transportation for their daily commutes, whether it’s going to work, school, or carrying out other essential tasks. High fuel prices on the black market have led to increased transportation costs, directly impacting household budgets.
