China has summoned the Japanese ambassador to Beijing in response to Tokyo’s announcement regarding the planned discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean. Tensions are escalating as the two countries seek to resolve this delicate situation.

Diplomatic tensions have arisen between China and Japan following Tokyo’s announcement of its intention to release treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean. This decision has raised international concerns due to the potential environmental risks associated with this discharge.

On Tuesday, August 22nd, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong summoned Japanese Ambassador Hideo Tarumi to Beijing to express China’s concerns about this move. The Tokyo government’s decision to proceed with the discharge of treated water from Fukushima has raised concerns among neighboring countries, particularly due to potential adverse effects on the marine environment and human health. The Japanese government has emphasized that the water will be treated beforehand to remove most radioactive substances, but this has not alleviated the fears of some countries.
