The magic formula to pull Benin out of the political crisis that has been shaking the country since 2019 remains dialogue, which is embedded in the DNA of the party Les Démocrates, according to Boni Yayi.
During the national council of the party Les Démocrates held in Porto-Novo this Saturday, the former president Thomas Boni Yayi, honorary president of this political party, expressed his satisfaction that dialogue is a characteristic practice of “Les Démocrates.”
In his speech, Boni Yayi stated that what characterizes the Les Démocrates party is dialogue. “Dialogue is our DNA, it is recognized,” said the former head of state. For Boni Yayi, dialogue remains the only possible solution for the reconciliation of the sons and daughters of Benin.
He proposes to the current government “to engage in genuine dialogue with everyone so that Benin wins in all areas.” Following the honorary president’s speech, Éric Houndété also mentioned the necessity of dialogue. He called for a national dialogue during which political solutions will be found to address political issues.
A dialogue to debate the functioning of the Republic’s institutions. A dialogue to discuss elections, especially the general elections of 2026, which should be free, transparent, fair, and peaceful. To achieve this, Éric Houndété affirmed that a trustworthy Electoral Commission (Cena) is needed to reassure everyone in their camp.
He wonders what could prevent the opposition from being represented in the Cena, the Electoral Council. According to him, only dialogue can correct this situation. It should be noted that 300 delegates were present at the national council, which saw the participation of the two major political blocs of the ruling coalition.
