The Ivorian nation is in a state of sadness following the death of former President Henri Konan Bédié, at the age of 89, this Tuesday. From Europe, Charles Blé Goudé expressed his condolences.
Political figures in the country, including Charles Blé Goudé, expressed their sorrow and paid tribute to this illustrious statesman in a post on his Facebook page on the night of Tuesday, August 1, 2023, following the news. The President of COJEP, the Pan-African Congress for Justice and the Equality of Peoples, described Bédié’s death as a “considerable loss.”
Furthermore, he praised the former President for his remarkable professional and political career, highlighting his status as a statesman, his humanism, his love for a job well done, his easy-going nature, and his sense of humor, all of which will leave a great void. “The dean of our Presidents has departed while we had an appointment pending. President BÉDIÉ thus leaves us orphans of a certain idea of Côte d’Ivoire that he so well embodied,” said Blé Goudé emotionally.
Moreover, Charles Blé Goudé expressed his deepest condolences to Mrs. Henriette Bédié, her children, and the entire family of the deceased President. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to Henri Konan Bédié’s political family and the entire Ivorian people. “In this painful ordeal, I want to express my solidarity, as well as that of COJEP,” he added.
It is worth noting that the Sphinx of Daoukro played an important role in the democratic transition of Côte d’Ivoire after the death of President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, serving as the head of state from 1993 to 1999.
