The famous Nigerian singer Davido is currently embroiled in a heated controversy due to a clip excerpt he recently shared on his Instagram account.
The Nigerian superstar, David Adedeji Adeleke, known by his stage name Davido, has sparked the anger of Muslims this week with the release of a clip excerpt deemed insulting to Islam. The sequence in question is from his protege Olamilekan Taiwo’s album “Jaye Lo,” and it features men dancing in front of a mosque, followed by images of dance and singing.
As soon as the video was published, it quickly triggered outrage within the Muslim community, dividing opinions between Davido’s fans and those who strongly opposed the use of religion and religious imagery in the clip. Among the critical voices, Bashir Ahmed, the assistant to former President Muhammad Buhari, described the content as “offensive” and “disrespectful.” For many Muslims, the use of the Muslim prayer in the music video is seen as a violation of the sanctity of Salah (prayer), which holds a central place in Islam as its second fundamental pillar.
The tension escalated following these reactions, to the point where some protesters took to the streets to express their anger by burning photos of the artist Davido. Faced with the growing controversy, numerous sources report that the singer has finally decided to remove the controversial video. Although the artist has not yet responded to the issue, the video is currently unavailable on his Instagram page.
