Gathered in a political bureau meeting on July 29, 2023, the Force Cauris for an Emerging Benin Party (FCBE) analyzed the political situation in Niger and made recommendations to ECOWAS for a peaceful resolution.
The Force Cauris for an Emerging Benin Party (FCBE) led by Paul Hounkpè condemned the coup d’état that occurred on Wednesday, July 26th, in Niger. This condemnation was expressed through a press release dated July 29, 2023, in Cotonou. In the statement, the party’s political bureau strongly denounced the use of force by the presidential guard to overthrow President Mohamed Bazoum.
“The political bureau of the FCBE party, after analyzing the situation, strongly condemns this situation and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to democracy and respect for constitutional order across Africa,” stated the party in its press release.
For a swift return to normalcy, Paul Hounkpè’s party recommends that the presidents of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) prioritize the path of diplomacy and dialogue to prevent unnecessary bloodshed in this West African country.
It is worth noting that before sending an emissary to the military junta at the helm of the country, ECOWAS held an extraordinary meeting during which it imposed several sanctions against Niger.
