France takes measures to repatriate its nationals present in Niger. The diplomatic representation has informed French citizens in Niger that an evacuation operation is being prepared.
Given the concerning escalation of the conflict situation in Niger, France does not want to take any risks with its nationals. It quickly went into anticipation mode.
After being the target of a massive demonstration last Sunday, the French embassy in Niger announced an evacuation operation for French nationals.
“Facing the deterioration of the security situation in Niger, and taking advantage of the relative calm in Niamey, an evacuation operation by air is being prepared from Niamey,” the embassy said in a message addressed to those concerned.
In Paris, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the information to RFI. It stated that the evacuation operation will take place in a short period.
France accused of planning to attack the coup leaders A few hours before the decision to repatriate, the National Council for the Safeguard of Democracy (CNSP) accused France of planning a military intervention within the Nigerien presidency.
According to the Transition’s press release No. 14, France allegedly obtained authorizations from two authorities close to Mohamed Bazoum to carry out strikes targeting the headquarters of the coup leaders.
France quickly responded to this information by denying it. “We must debunk the disinformation and not fall into the trap,” said Catherine Colonna, head of French diplomacy.
