The extraordinary ECOWAS summit on Niger concluded in Abuja. An ultimatum was given to the coup leaders to reinstate Mohamed Bazoum as President of the Republic.
As expected, ECOWAS remained firm in its decision, refusing to endorse the actions of the Nigerien military. While awaiting the final communiqué, journalist Serge Daniel revealed the substance of the special conclave’s conclusion: “One week for the Nigerien junta to release and reinstate President Bazoum; otherwise, all options are on the table,” he relayed on Twitter.
According to the same source, ECOWAS is even ready to consider a military intervention to restore Mohamed Bazoum to power. The coup leaders were already anticipating such an option and declared that they are prepared to face it.
Following the ECOWAS meeting, the Heads of State also attended the special UEMOA summit, which is also taking place in Abuja.
