The National Council for the Salvation of the People (CNSP) in power in Niger can count on Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea. The three countries have expressed their support for the Nigerien coup leaders. Mali and Burkina Faso have even gone as far as warning ECOWAS against its intention to sponsor a military intervention against Niger.
On the evening of Monday, July 31st, Mali and Burkina Faso took a strong stance against ECOWAS. The two countries have sided with the Nigerien Transitional authorities. In a joint statement, both countries clearly expressed their disagreement with the economic sanctions imposed by ECOWAS and UEMOA against Niger.
Like Guinea, Mali, and Burkina Faso, refuse to implement the measures taken during the extraordinary summits on Sunday, July 30, 2023. They express their support for the Nigerien people and the new authorities.
The transitional governments of Burkina Faso and Mali call on the forces of society to stand ready and mobilized to support the Nigerien people in these dark hours of Pan-Africanism.

Regarding the planned military intervention, Assimi Goïta and Ibrahim Traoré warn that “any military action against Niger would be considered a declaration of war against Burkina Faso and Mali.”
Mali and Burkina Faso also warn that “any military intervention against Niger would lead to Mali and Burkina Faso’s withdrawal from ECOWAS, as well as the adoption of measures of self-defense in support of the armed forces and the people of Niger.”
