“SITARAIL announces that rail traffic has been suspended due to heavy rains in the Ouangolodougou region on the night of July 22 to July 23, 2023.
According to a statement received by BéninwebTV on Monday, July 24, 2023, “a water retention dike, located 200 meters from the railway track, collapsed, releasing a significant amount of water that swept away portions of the railway embankment.” SITARAIL assures that its technical teams are actively working to restore the railway track as soon as possible.
As a reminder, the Société Internationale de Transport Africain par Rail (SITARAIL) is a company based in Abidjan, a subsidiary of Bolloré Transport & Logistics operating railways in Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso. The company has a concession on the railway network of both countries.
In January 2022, the shipping company MSC announced its takeover of the parent company of Sitarail, Camrail, and Benirail, Bolloré Africa logistics. Additionally, in March 2022, the authorities of Burkina Faso questioned the contract signed with Bolloré Africa Logistics and denounced the mismanagement of the country’s railway by Sitarail.”
