The Commissioner-General of the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR), Philippe Kokou Tchodiè, has announced the implementation of new customs procedures for the transit of goods at the Togo-Ghana border, marking the beginning of a promising pilot phase.

Starting from August 1, 2023, a new era of customs modernization begins at the Joint Control Post (JCP) of Noepé/Akanu, at the border between Togo and Ghana. In a statement released on Friday, July 28, 2023, the Commissioner-General of the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) announced the implementation of the pilot phase of interconnecting the customs computer systems of Ghana and Togo. This represents a significant progress in facilitating cross-border trade. This technological advancement relies on the centralized Sydonia World platform, which aims to efficiently process import, export, and transit declarations.

The choice of the JCP of Noepé/Akanu for the launch of this pilot phase underscores the strategic importance of this border in trade between the two countries. By eliminating bureaucratic obstacles, these new procedures are expected to enhance the smooth flow of trade and facilitate the movement of goods.

This development in customs procedures reflects the willingness of the Togolese and Ghanaian authorities to promote a more dynamic and attractive business environment. By simplifying customs formalities, businesses will be able to optimize their operations and gain competitiveness in international markets.

The Commissioner-General of the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) encourages economic actors in the region to actively prepare for these changes. The use of the Sydonia World customs computer system will become the norm for declarations related to goods transit through the JCP of Noepé/Akanu, as stated in the press release.
