For the second consecutive time, Coton FC will not progress past the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. The reigning champions of Benin were eliminated from the African tournament after their defeat against ASEC Mimosas on Sunday in Cotonou.
In a match against the Ivorians for the return leg of the first round, the Coton Boys were defeated with a score of 2-0. Two goals from Pokou N’guessan (38′; 70′), both from corner kicks, secured the victory for the visiting team, who secured their ticket to the next round.
It’s also the end of the road for AS Vita Club. This Sunday at home, the Congolese team played to a 1-1 draw against Primeiro de Agosto. This score wasn’t enough to advance, especially since in the first leg, the Angolan opponent had won 1-0 in Luanda. The same fate for Coton Sport de Garoua. The Cameroonian team suffered a 0-2 defeat at home against AS Real de Bamako.
Contrarily, Hafia FC from Conakry will move on to the second round. The Guinean club advances after holding Senegalese side Génération Foot to a 2-2 draw. The first leg had ended in a goalless draw. The away goal rule played a deciding role once again. It’s worth noting that the first leg matches of the second round will take place from September 15th to 17th. The return leg is scheduled between September 29th and October 1st.
