As the decisive round of 16 match of the Africa Cup of Nations looms, with Senegal facing off against Ivory Coast, Émerse Faé delivers a motivating directive to his squad.
During a press conference on Sunday, Faé stated: “So far, I haven’t identified my true Elephants.”
He took over the team following Gasset’s departure after Ivory Coast’s defeat to Equatorial Guinea. Reflecting on Gasset’s departure, Faé emphasized: “Even though I take over a team while on the other side, coach Gasset loses it, he’s someone who has brought me a lot during a year and a half, and whom I deeply respect.”
Responding to the discussions sparked by his arrival at the helm of the Elephants, Faé clarified: “It’s on everyone’s lips, but what’s important to me is not what’s important on the lips of people.”
He then alluded to the goal that is close to his heart: “To provoke that shock that will allow to find the true Elephants of tomorrow.”
“So far, I haven’t had my true Elephants in the three first matches,” Faé explained. “So I hope we will find the true Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire tomorrow.”
Note that the match between Senegal and Ivory Coast will take place on Monday, January 29, at the Yamoussoukro stadium at 8:00 PM GMT.
