CAN 2023 (Qualifiers): Mozambique’s national coach, Chiquinho Conde, revealed on Monday his list of selected players for the 6th matchday of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Benin. A squad of 25 players includes star player Geny Catamo.
In search of the second ticket from Group L, which qualifies for the 2023 AFCON whose final phase will take place from January 13th to February 11th, 2024, in Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique and Benin will face each other in September in Maputo. The two teams will engage in a fierce duel, counting for the sixth round of the qualifiers.
Ranked second in their group after their victory over Rwanda (2-0) in the previous matchday, the Mambas need only a draw to secure their qualification for the competition. After a draw against Senegal (1-1) last June, the Squirrels must secure all three points in the game to make the journey to Ivorian soil. Misfortune awaits the defeated.
For this clash, Mozambique’s national coach has unveiled his list of selected players. Coach Chiquinho Conde has called up 25 players, including star player Geny Catamo. The midfielder, who dealt a blow to the Beninese in Cotonou, on loan from Sporting to Marítimo, is included in the squad, which has been reinforced by the additions of Ricardo Guimarães and Jonathan Muiomo.
At 27 years old, the former is a midfielder who plays with GD Chaves in the Portuguese top division. As for the latter, he is a 24-year-old midfielder who plays in the German fourth division with CZ Jena. However, two key players are missing from the list, Reinildo Mandava and Zainadine Junior.
As a reminder, the match is scheduled for September 9, 2023, at the Estadio Nacional do Zimpeto in Maputo at 3 PM GMT.
