Guinea’s Coach, Kaba Diawara, announced his selected squad of players for the match against Malawi, part of the 6th round of qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON. A group of 23 players from the national team, Syli National, has been chosen, excluding the captain Naby Keita.
As the last chance for teams vying for qualification to the 2023 AFCON, which will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire, the sixth round of qualifiers will kick off in the coming September. Several matches will be played across the continent during this final round.
Already qualified, Guinea will face Malawi on September 9th in Lilongwe. This match will primarily serve as preparation for the Syli National, who will face Canada and Iran in friendly matches in October. However, the stakes are high for the Flames, who must secure all three points against Guinea to have a chance to finish among the best third-placed teams, a ticket to the African Cup.
For this match, Guinea’s national coach, Kaba Diawara, has revealed his list of called-up players. The tactician has summoned 23 of his best players, excluding Naby Keita. The captain of the Syli National, who suffered a groin injury during pre-season with Werder Bremen, is not fully recovered and has been left out of the team.
Furthermore, two players are making their return to the national team. They are Mohamed Bayo (Lille) and Ibrahima Cissé (Schalke 04). There are also new faces joining Kaba Diawara’s team: Madiou Keïta (Auxerre B/France) and Mohamed Chérif Camara (Hafia FC/Guinea).
