Algeria faces Burkina Faso on Saturday, January 20, 2024, in their second match of the CAN 2023. Here are the official lineups for the match.
The Algerian team is in dire need of a turnaround. This Saturday, in their second Group D game of the CAN 2023 phase, they have a chance to make amends against Burkina Faso. Following a disappointing draw in their opener against Angola (1-1), Algeria must win to hope for a spot in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Burkina Faso had a narrow victory over Mauritania (1-0) in their first match, giving them a certain level of confidence. Though there’s a chance to qualify through a third-place finish, the 2019 title holders must put on a convincing display to assert themselves as serious contenders for the trophy.
Suffering from an adductor injury, Bennacer will miss this match, forcing Djamel Belmadi to reorganize his team. Two changes are made from the previous starting lineup: Zerrouki steps in for the AC Milan player in midfield, and Feghouli replaces Chaïbi on the left flank of the attack. Despite being in top form with USG, Amoura will start the match on the bench, while the forward trio Mahrez, Belaïli, and Bounedjah is maintained. On the opposing side, coach Hubert Velud makes three changes, bringing in Nagalo, Sangare, and Fessal Tapsoba for Bangre, Badolo, and Aziz Ki. The hero of the match against Mauritania, Bertrand Traoré, remains an offensive option on the bench.
