Ngando Pickett, known as the most fervent fan of Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions, was arrested on Monday, February 5, 2024. His arrest took place upon his return from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the Douala airport.
The eminent supporter’s return to his home country followed the Indomitable Lions’ elimination from the tournament, according to information reported by Africa sur 7. The arrest occurred around 2 a.m., just after his plane landed. The reasons for this police intervention are said to be related to the call for help he had made during his stay in Ivory Coast, the media reported.
Statements transcribed by Équinoxe TV suggest that Ngando Pickett expressed some understanding of the measures taken by the Cameroonian authorities, following his own reflection on the events that occurred on Ivorian soil. “There were problems, some believe that due to my behavior, I dishonored Cameroon, I had to explain myself. It’s quite normal,” he stated.
As a reminder, following the elimination of the Indomitable Lions team, Ngando Pickett made a public request for assistance for his return home. Following this call, a company from Ivory Coast provided him with financial support. Ngando Pickett is often known for such requests, which sometimes attracts the criticism of some opponents.
