In Cameroon, three people were killed on the night of Monday, August 7th, to Tuesday, August 8th, 2023, at a displaced persons’ site in Kerawa, in the Kolofata district of the Mayo-Sava department.
The mayor of Kolofata stated that members of Boko Haram attacked a displaced persons’ camp, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. Additionally, one member of Boko Haram was killed. “The displaced persons’ camp in Kerawa was attacked by armed men from Boko Haram. Despite the intervention of vigilance committee members and elements of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, they caused the deaths of three individuals and took away food, clothing, provisions, and bedding materials,” he affirmed.
According to an anonymous member of the Cameroonian army, the attack on the Kerawa displaced persons’ site occurred on the night from Monday to Tuesday. “Despite the defeats our army inflicts on these terrorists and the heavy loss of human lives, Boko Haram fighters continue to attack us,” the security source added.
Over the past few weeks, there has been an increase in Boko Haram attacks in the bordering Mayo-Sava department in Nigeria. The fighters from the Nigerian sect not only ambush farmers but also herders, traders, defense and security forces, and other individuals traveling on the roads.
