In a post on his Instagram account, André Onana reacted to his call-up with the Indomitable Lions for the upcoming September camp. The Cameroonian goalkeeper conveyed a cryptic message.
André Onana is set to participate in the sixth round of qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON, with the final phase scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire. The Manchester United goalkeeper has been summoned to join the Indomitable Lions for the September camp, during which Cameroon will face Burundi in a crucial match. This call-up was justified by national coach Rigobert Song during a post-match press conference.
“There has never been a problem with André Onana. As I’ve said before, it all depended on him. He knew what he had to do. If he’s on the list, it means he did what he needed to. Today, we are pleased with his return. He is currently among the best goalkeepers in the world, and I congratulate him for that,” stated the former captain of the Cameroonian team in front of the press.
However, a few hours after Rigobert Song’s media appearance, André Onana posted a cryptic message on his Instagram account. He shared a coded message with an African proverb: “Lies give flowers, but not fruit,” wrote the Manchester United goalkeeper on his Instagram story. Evidently, things aren’t quite harmonious between Onana and coach Song.
Second in Group C with 4 points, Cameroon is neck-and-neck with Burundi, who also have 4 points. A draw would secure the Indomitable Lions’ ticket for the journey to Ivory Coast.
