Defeated this Friday by the Nigerian team Delta Queens (0-2), the Beninese team Sam Nelly advances to the second round of the CAF Women’s Champions League preliminaries, thanks to their better position in Group A.
Sam Nelly will also compete in the semi-finals of the qualifying rounds of the CAF Women’s Champions League in the WAFU B zone. The Benin champions secured their spot in the final four after their match on Friday against Delta Queens. Facing the Nigerian team in a match held in Benin City, the team led by coach Frédéric Hounkponou suffered a 2-0 defeat. This loss works in favor of the Beninese team, as they finish second in Group A.
Placed in a three-team group, the Beninese team had drawn against Burkina Faso’s USFA (0-0), who had suffered a heavy defeat against Delta Queens in their first match of the tournament (0-3). In their second match, Benin only needed to avoid losing by three goals to qualify. This mission was accomplished by Sam Nelly, even though a victory or at least a draw would have been better. But regardless, only qualification matters.
