Defending champions of Benin, Sam Nelly’s team, have been eliminated in the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers in the WAFU B Zone after their defeat to Ampem Darkoa of Ghana (1-6) on Monday.
Similar to Coton FC and Loto-Popo, who were eliminated in the men’s category, Benin will also not have a representative in the final phase of a CAF competition in the women’s category. As the only remaining representative, Sam Nelly lost all hope on Monday of participating in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
While they were expected to qualify for the final to secure their spot in the main tournament, the Benin champions were dominated by Ampem Darkoa. Facing the Ghanaian Ladies in a match played in Benin City, Nigeria, as part of the semi-finals, the team coached by Frédéric Hounkponou suffered a crushing defeat with a final score of 6-1.
Sam Nelly’s journey ends in the semi-finals, and they will now aim to finish the competition on a positive note in the 3rd-place match against Athlético Abidjan 🇨🇮, scheduled for Thursday, August 31, 2023, starting at 3:00 PM.
