The African Champions League took center stage this weekend with the first leg matches of the preliminary first round. Seeking their first qualification to the C1 final phase, Coton FC hosted ASEC Mimosas on Sunday in Cotonou. The match didn’t favor either team, as they ended with a goalless draw.
In an away match in Algeria, Etoile du Sahel secured a valuable victory against CS Constantine (2-0). Mission accomplished for the Moroccan team FAR Rabat, who defeated ASKO Kara (1-0) in Togo. The only goal was scored by Ivorian Lamine Diakité (18th minute). The Libyan team Al Ahly-Benghazi also achieved a remarkable feat, overturning the Nigerian team Enyimba in a spectacular match (4-3).
In the other first leg matches, Vita Club from Congo faced Primero de Agosto in Angola, and Senegalese team Génération Foot played against Hafia in Guinea, both resulting in a 0-0 draw. The second leg matches are scheduled for August 24th.
