Burkina Faso: The Higher Council of Communication, the authority responsible for granting licenses for private radio and television broadcasting stations, has prohibited, starting from Thursday, August 24th, 2023, the broadcasting of television channels that promote homosexuality.
In Burkina Faso, the Higher Council of Communication (HCC) adopted a decision on August 24th, 2023, which bans the broadcasting of television channels promoting homosexuality. According to the statement, television channels intended for children and adolescents are exempt from any homosexual content or scenes.
In Burkina Faso, no law has ever penalized homosexuality since the country’s independence in 1960. However, LGBT individuals have no choice but to lead a double life to avoid being targeted. Threats, blackmail, physical assaults, and even hunting down homosexuals are part of their daily reality, not to mention the inability to file complaints with the police.
