In the statement released on Wednesday, July 26, the Chief of Staff of the Burkinabé army denies the allegations of discontent movements within some military barracks.
Colonel-Major Célestin Simporé, the Chief of General Staff of the Burkinabé Armed Forces, denied on Wednesday the rumors of discontent movements within certain barracks in the country. Reports of such unrest in some military barracks had been circulating on social media while Burkinabé President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, was in Russia to participate in the “Russia-Africa” summit.
Through a press release, the Burkinabé army stated, “False information about discontent movements in certain military barracks has been circulating on social media in recent hours.” Simporé emphasized that the Chief of General Staff categorically denies these allegations, which clearly intend to manipulate public opinion.
“In this context of intense operational engagement to reclaim the national territory, the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces calls on all Burkinabé to support the fighting forces and remain vigilant against attempts to demoralize orchestrated by individuals with malicious intentions,” the Burkinabé army stated. He also commended all the fighting forces for “the multiple efforts deployed in the framework of reclaiming the national territory.”
