General Brice Oligui Nguema, currently serving as the transitional president of Gabon, has expressed his intention to participate in the country’s government reform. Moreover, he might be replaced by another figure.

According to the source Jeune Afrique, the soldier has taken on the responsibility of the Committee for Transition and the Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), which was established after the coup d’état. The coup leaders confirmed this information in a statement early evening on Wednesday. Specifically, he was designated as the ‘President of the Transition.’

However, earlier in the day, General Brice Oligui Nguema declined to present himself as the new leader of the Gabonese state. ‘I am not yet declaring myself as the Gabonese head of state; I am not considering anything at the moment. This is a debate that we will have with all the generals. It will involve reaching a consensus. Everyone will share ideas, and the best ones will be chosen, along with the name of the person who will lead the transition,’ he stated.
