A young visually impaired man is at risk of facing 5 years in prison for internet fraud.

The man appeared before the Court for the Repression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (CRIET) this Thursday, March 21, 2024. The defendant, who identifies himself as a motel manager in Ouidah, pled not guilty, according to reports from Bip FM radio.

The public prosecutor stated that during the preliminary investigation, the accused had admitted to being a former cybercriminal. However, from all the information extracted from his phone, he only acknowledged one instance. The substitute prosecutor has therefore requested a 5-year prison sentence, with 3 years being mandatory. The accused will learn of his fate on April 18th.
