In a statement addressed to the royal court of Abomey, the Prefect of Zou Department has prohibited, until further notice, the organization of any ceremony at King Ghezo’s private palace.
For reasons of public order, the organization of any ceremony at King Ghezo’s private palace located in Cana is prohibited. This decision comes from the Prefect of Zou Department.
Through a prefectural decree dated August 18, 2023, the prefectural authority, citing issues of public order, has banned the organization of any ceremony at King Ghezo’s private palace and at all private palaces of former kings throughout the Abomey plateau.
The elements of the republican police of Zou Department and the mayors of the municipalities on the plateau are instructed to ensure the implementation of the prefectural decision.
The prefect’s statement emphasized that only King Abomey Dada Houegbadja Béhanzin has the authority to preside over such ceremonies.
