According to information from the Flood Alert Bulletin issued by the Benin Interinstitutional Forecasting and Alert Cell (CIPA), there is a risk of flooding in certain municipalities in the country.
From August 17 to 20, 2023, a rise in the water levels of the Niger and Ouémé rivers is forecasted, posing a risk of flooding in the adjacent municipalities. This information is provided by the Flood Alert Bulletin of the Benin Interinstitutional Forecasting and Alert Cell (CIPA).
The municipalities threatened by the rising waters of the Ouémé and Niger rivers include Adjohoun, Zangnanado, and Bonou in the lower Ouémé valley, as well as areas near Malanville and Karimama in the Niger Basin.
According to the details provided by the Cell, the Ouémé river has reached a height of 924 cm in Zangnanado and 675 cm in Bonou.
Faced with the flood threats, the Flood Alert Bulletin from the Benin Interinstitutional Forecasting and Alert Cell (CIPA) urges residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and to avoid engaging in unsafe activities near watercourses.
