The agents of the Republican police dispersed a protest march in Parakou on Friday, September 22, 2023.
In Parakou, citizens mobilized on Friday to protest against the high cost of living, the operation to reclaim public spaces, and the potential military intervention by ECOWAS in Niger. However, the demonstration was quickly disrupted by the police.
Fraternité Fm reported that law enforcement descended on the scene not to oversee the march but to disperse it. Nevertheless, the organizers claim to have formally informed the City Hall about the organization of this demonstration.
