The mayor of the city of Cotonou, Luc Sètondji Atrokpo, was involved in a car accident on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. According to a statement from the ANCB, one death has been recorded.
While en route to Natitingou for a session of the National Association of Municipalities of Benin (ANCB), the vehicle of Luc Sètondji Atrokpo, the mayor of Cotonou, was involved in a car accident.
On Thursday morning, February 29, 2024, the National Association of Municipalities of Benin (ANCB) announced the postponement of the session through a statement. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the indefinite postponement of the National Office meeting and the National Council session of the National Association of Municipalities of Benin (ANCB), initially scheduled for February 29 and March 1, 2024 in Natitingou,” the statement read.
The same statement reassured that the mayor of Cotonou is out of danger. However, one person has died as a result of the accident. “The president of the ANCB, Luc Sètondji ATROKPO, who was to chair these important meetings, was the victim of a serious traffic accident on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, while traveling to Natitingou. The accident occurred near Dassa-Zoumè and resulted in one death and material damage.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the National Office of the ANCB unanimously decided to postpone these crucial meetings to a later date. The life of President ATROKPO is not in danger, but he currently requires medical care. We are in constant contact with the medical team and remain optimistic about his recovery,” the statement added.
“The National Office of the ANCB would like to reassure all members, partners, and the general public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure a quick recovery for President Luc Sètondji ATROKPO. We would like to reaffirm our solidarity and unwavering support for the president of the ANCB and his family during this difficult time.
We will regularly inform the public about President ATROKPO’s health and any developments regarding the rescheduling of the National Office meetings and the National Council Session of the ANCB.
We ask for everyone’s support and prayers for a speedy recovery for President Luc Sètondji ATROKPO,” the statement concluded.
