The mayor of the municipality of Cotonou, Luc Atrokpo, draws attention to the scam orchestrated in his name by malicious individuals who are using his profile.
In a statement, the Communication Cell of the top authority of the Cotonou Municipality and president of the Association of Benin Communes denounces the use of the mayor’s profile for cybercriminal activities.
In the said statement, the municipal authority informed that ill-intentioned individuals are offering financial assistance through fake profiles in exchange for withdrawal fees. “Mayor Luc Sètondji ATROKPO has not authorized anyone to offer financial assistance on the internet, let alone promise fund transfers,” the statement clarifies.
The top authority of Cotonou invites the public to be vigilant and not fall into the schemes of these individuals who are at odds with the law.

We have observed that ill-intentioned individuals are impersonating the identity and image of Mr. Luc Sètondji ATROKPO, Mayor of Cotonou and President of the National Association of Benin Communes (ANCB), creating fake Facebook profiles to defraud innocent citizens. They then offer financial assistance to their victims through these fake profiles in exchange for withdrawal fees.
Mayor Luc Sètondji ATROKPO has not authorized anyone to offer financial assistance on the internet, let alone promise fund transfers.
Through this statement, we inform the public that Mayor Luc Sètondji ATROKPO is in no way involved in this fraudulent practice, which is severely punishable by law.
We therefore urge everyone to be vigilant and not fall into the trap of these individuals who are in conflict with the law.
Furthermore, we warn the perpetrators of this practice that measures are being taken to inform the competent state services in order to track them down and apply the full force of the law.
