The Attorney General of the Court of Appeal in Cotonou has called on the people of Benin to be vigilant regarding the advertising campaign promoting the “Sainte Julie” Private Health School (EPS). In a statement dated September 7, 2023, the Attorney General warned the individuals behind this campaign that could mislead parents of new high school graduates.
According to the Attorney General’s information, “Sainte Julie” is not among the authorized private institutions of higher education in health to open in Burkina Faso for the 2023-2024 academic year. This institution is located in Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, and Tenkodogo and admits foreign students, including Beninese.
The Attorney General describes as “ill-intentioned” those individuals encouraging parents to enroll their children in this school that lacks the required authorization, even if it offers Bachelor’s degree programs in Nursing and Obstetrics (LSIO). “This behavior is against the law and deserves severe punishment,” stated Magistrate Comlan Christian Adjakas.
Parents are urged to exercise vigilance to avoid falling victim to such schemes. Furthermore, the Attorney General has called on owners of private institutions within the national territory to strictly comply with the law.
It is worth noting that a few weeks ago, Burkinabe authorities imposed sanctions on the private school “Sainte Julie.” It was found guilty of violating the provisions of the decree and the specifications regarding the conditions for creating, opening, operating, and expanding private health schools in Burkina Faso. The school was reprimanded and prohibited from recruiting new students starting from the 2023-2024 academic year.
