The Beninese press world is mourning following the death of renowned journalist and author, Jérôme Carlos. His passing was announced on Monday, January 15, 2024, leaving the media community in shock.
Journalist, columnist, writer, and Beninese historian Jérôme Carlos has died. The sad news was disclosed by Benin’s media outlets in the afternoon of Monday, January 15, 2023. Carlos passed away at the age of 79, and the causes of death of the founder of Radio Capp FM have not yet been disclosed.
Who Was Jérôme Carlos?
Jérôme Carlos was a journalist and historian by trade. He served as the Director of Museums, Libraries, and National Archives in Cotonou, Benin. He was also a consulting expert with the African Cultural Institute in Dakar. As a journalist, he authored most of his articles for newspapers in Ivory Coast. He worked as the editor-in-chief for Ivoire Dimanche from 1982 to 1990, then for La Presse (1990-1993) and La Lettre d’Afrique (1994).
Jérôme Carlos was the Director-General of the African Center for Positive Thought (CAPP) and the managing director of the private commercial radio station, CAPP FM. He also contributed to several collective works. Finally, he authored the text for the Dictée d’Afrique 2006.
