The Court of Cotonou sentenced a young man to 12 months of imprisonment without parole for phone theft. The trial took place on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

A young man was sentenced to 12 months of imprisonment without parole and ordered to pay the costs for stealing a phone. To commit the theft, the suspect posed as a former student of a private university.

The stolen phone was valued at 450,000 CFA francs. According to the verdict of the Court, the accused is obliged to compensate the victim.

According to the facts reported by Libre Express, the suspect had pretended to help students correct an exam. His plan worked perfectly, as he gained the trust of the students.

During the correction session, he asked for a mobile phone to download sample answers online. Unaware of his intentions, one of the students willingly handed over his phone. The fake student then pretended to go downstairs to print the downloaded answers, but instead, he disappeared with the phone worth 450,000 CFA francs.
