In 2026, the FCBE party will be aligned with the ruling coalition. The controversy sparked by El Farouck Soumanou’s statement over the weekend on a local private television channel has prompted Paul Hounkpè to provide a clarification.

During a program last weekend, El Farouck, one of the political figures of the Force for an Emerging Benin (FCBE) party, stated that his political party is working towards aligning with the ruling coalition. The remarks made by the political figure were misinterpreted in online comments.

For some, the Force for an Emerging Benin party is no longer part of the opposition to the current government. The party would be preparing to announce its alignment with the ruling coalition. In response to this controversy, the National Executive Secretary of the party, Paul Hounkpè, stepped forward to provide clarification.

“The FCBE party has never left the opposition,” emphasized the party’s leader. According to Paul Hounkpè, the party is not even considering leaving the opposition. “We are still part of the opposition in relation to governance. Nothing has changed, and we are confident that we will remain so until 2026,” Paul Hounkpè clarified.

While clarifying El Farouk Soumanou’s statement, Paul Hounkpè believes that the FCBE, as a serious party, is working to gain power in 2026.

“Starting from 2026, either on our own or in combination with other political parties, we will be in power,” the opposition leader clarified. “We are confident that the power in 2026 belongs to the FCBE and its allies, that’s what it’s about,” he concluded.
