Alexis Akakpo, the Director General of the OBSSU, is no longer free to move around. He has been remanded in custody after being questioned by the Special Prosecutor of the Economic Crimes and Terrorism Court (CRIET).
On Friday, December 8, 2023, Alexis Akakpo, the Director General of the Benin Office of School and University Sports (OBSSU), was brought before the Special Prosecutor of the Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (CRIET). Unfortunately, he was unable to return home. He was placed under remand custody following the interrogation.
Alexis Akakpo is not the only one implicated in the case. The OBSSU accountant and a third defendant were also taken into custody on the order of the Special Prosecutor. Their trial is scheduled for December 18.
As a reminder, they are being prosecuted for alleged embezzlement of public funds. Information provided by BIP radio reveals that the director general is suspected of making significant withdrawals from the Office’s cash register without justification.
