Responding to his fellow artist Kardinal Ricky, rapper Vano Baby breaks the silence on his dressing style.
Appearing on the “Kfé Week-end” show on TVC this Friday, Beninese artist Kardinal Ricky shared his views on the entertainment industry in Benin. When asked about the current state of the music scene, the rapper known as “Gbévoun de luxe” didn’t hold back. He acknowledged that the new generation of artists possesses undeniable vocal talent but neglects the importance of their image through their clothing.
“The guys sing well, but in terms of their image, I don’t yet see an artist in the new generation who says they dress well and invest in their image, because that’s what we need to sell,” he stated.
When asked about his colleague Vano Baby, Kardinal didn’t hesitate. “Vano doesn’t dress well. It’s not there yet. He’s a good guy, he sings very well. When he’s on stage, it’s great, but he can’t always be in a suit. Sometimes he has to be hip hop, wearing thrift shop clothes to show his expertise. When you establish your dressing style in your country, and fans really love you, when you go abroad, you should amaze them. You should do big concerts, and even the state should be proud of you,” he affirmed.
As Kardinal’s bold statement continues to generate various reactions on social media, Vano’s response didn’t take long. In a post on his Facebook page on Saturday, August 19, 2023, the “sorcier vivant” (living sorcerer) fired back at his colleague.
“I burst out laughing watching the video… by the way, brother, just in the video, you wore at least 3 fake things that I would never wear. But THANK YOU very much, I will take it into account,” he commented, along with the video of Kardinal.
