The 2023-2024 school year has commenced in Benin since Monday, September 18. However, the holidays have been extended for some students whose schools are currently difficult to access.
The holidays have been extended by a few days for students whose schools are perilous to reach due to flooding. In response to the situation, the government is not idle, as explained by the Minister of Secondary, Technical, and Vocational Education, Yves Chabi Kouaro.
According to the authority responsible for the sub-sector of secondary, technical, and vocational education, measures are underway to pump water out of the affected schools to enable the resumption of educational activities, as stated on a private radio station.
Thus, by next week, students from the flooded schools will be able to resume their educational activities, the minister assured. Furthermore, arrangements will be made to help them catch up on any missed lessons.
It should be noted that with the recent rains and the rising waters of the Ouémé and Niger rivers, many localities have been flooded, and water has inundated some school facilities.
