Benin has acquired two new aircraft. The delivery of these aircraft was made on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

In Benin, the government is considering launching domestic routes. In this context, two DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft have been acquired by the government from the national budget. This acquisition further solidifies the country’s desire to have a national airline.

The project was announced in 2020 by Hervé Hèhomey, the Minister of Transport at the time. “We have the ambition to create a national airline,” he said. At that time, the project was already well advanced, with discussions underway with RwandAir and other partners in the aviation industry.

The project took a serious shape in 2021 when the government decided to become a shareholder in Benin Airlines (formerly Air Taxi Benin). According to the information provided at the time, the government would participate to the extent of 30% of the shares.
